Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Booking in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by having your group commit to dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Waterfront home with private pool, hot tub, pool table & fireplace -dog-friendly has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your trip.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Hatteras beach you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect your property!
- At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
