Finding the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. public path from Avon's Kinnakeet Shores 4Br-4 Masters\nNEW pickleball courts! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
