Getting the best Avon vacation property experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. Reserve your vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
Selecting the best rental:
- Select your vacation week and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Beachfront gem with private hot tub, free WiFi, central AC, & deck has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Advice for a terrific stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
