Our top Hatteras rental booking tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Book your vacation home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Filter your rental search:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanfront 4 bedroom house w\/ private W\/D, WiFi, shared pool, AC has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. If not, reach out to the host before booking the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
