Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Finding the best value:
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Make a plan and choose a perfectrental home:
- Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Canal Front, Dog Friendly, Dock & Hot Tub has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Hatteras destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during arrival. text the property manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
