Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to visit Frisco & When to book:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To book the best vacation home within budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- To start, have your group decide on trip dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Canal Front, Dog Friendly, Dock & Hot Tub has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what is right for your group.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the rental manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
