Getting the best Avon vacation rental experience:
How to get the best value:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Summer is high season in the Hatteras area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the best rental home in the Hatteras area:
- Start by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Waterfront, Dog-Friendly Home w\/ Sound View, Private Hot Tub, Dock & Shared Pool has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before booking your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what is suitable for your group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
