Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:
When to visit Waves & When to reserve a Hatteras rental home:
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Summer is high season in Waves. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Hatteras area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have deals for local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your family decide on dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. WV25 Surf Shack by First Flight Rentals has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. If not, call the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
More tips for your stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
