Tips to get the best vacation rental experience:
When to book a Hatteras rental & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To book the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Hatteras attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the perfect rental in the Hatteras area:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Oceanfront home with ocean view, private hot tub, outdoor pool, & central AC has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If not, contact the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
