Finding the best Avon vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Avon. Book your Hatteras rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting and booking the rightrental home:
- First, have your family choose vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly home with ocean view, private pool, hot tub, AC, & washer\/dryer has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, call the host before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Know before you go:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
