Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation property experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Hatteras rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Hatteras area travel guides which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the perfect rental:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly home with ocean view, private pool, hot tub, AC, & washer\/dryer has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure damages are not linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
