By far, the natural beauty is considered the most gorgeous attraction of Hatteras Island — from Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge to Hatteras Island National Seashore. One of the outstanding features that keep visitors returning to Hatteras Island year after year is the unpopulated nature of the beaches. You can pull over on a deserted stretch of NC Highway 12, or simply walk the one min. from the Ivey Coast Beach House and find a piece of unspoiled shoreline all to yourself. During the fall and spring months, it’s possible to savor a long walk along the beach without encountering another person. The striking, pristine condition of the beaches ranks the Cape Hatteras National Seashore as one of the best beaches in America, and a routine entry on many top beaches lists, including "America's Top 10 Beaches" by the well known expert, Dr. Beach. On Hatteras Island, you’ll find no busy boardwalks, no eateries or bars set up right on the beach. You'll simply find miles of sand and blue Atlantic Ocean with Dolphins swimming close to shore.
On the southern end of Hatteras Island where the Ivey Coast Beach House is located, Hatteras Village is known for its ties to offshore fishing. The village borders Hatteras Inlet, giving recreational and commercial fishing boats an simple route to the Gulf Stream and the inshore fishing grounds. Hatteras has numerous marinas where commercial and recreational boats dock, making this a great place from which to book an offshore charter. Hatteras also offers a lot more shopping these days, from art galleries to clothing stores. One of the Outer Banks’ newest attractions, the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, is located here. The 'complimentary' ferry to Ocracoke Island leaves from Hatteras Village.
The most well-known Hatteras attractions is the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, but other trendy sites will get you up close and personal with the Native Americans who were the real first inhabitants of these island, teach you about how locals predicted weather years ago and about the courageous men from the U.S. Life Saving Service who went to the aid of hundreds of shipwreck victims. The island attractions are either complimentary or charge a very modest fee. Only a short distance off Hatteras Island there are other fabulous places to visit, such as the Wright Brothers National Memorial and the North Carolina Aquarium. There is more to do here than you could possibly do in one summer! See our Attractions and Events pages to check out all the possibilities!
**Pool Heat is available for $450 for the week or $75per day if your stay is shorter, plus NC taxes. The outdoor temp (including the overnight low) must be 65 degrees or higher for the pool heat to run.
**A 6.75% North Carolina Sales Tax and a 6% County Occupancy Tax are required on all rental prices and are not included in the prices below.
**House cleaning upon check out, bath towels and sheets are supplied in the prices below, unless otherwise indicated. Beach towels are not supplied, and we recommend you bring your own.
***The hot tub and pool are open from March - October. Hot tub also open November, can be opened for a fee December-February.
Fireplaces are for aesthetics only.
For the safety of our property and guests, we have one ring doorbell, that records audio and video on movement, on the front porch that faces the driveway.
***Starting in 2023, I will be moving down to the OBX and making sure that Ivey Coast is the best cleaned and serviced home on the Island. Shore Details has done a good job for many years with nearly all positive comments from past renters. Now I'm going to take that to a new level of cleaning. Pool is cleaned before stay and checked once mid week.

Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental home:
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and choose a perfect Hatteras vacation home:
- Select vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Ivey Coast 6BR, Sleeps 14,Pool,Hot Tub, pool table, arcade, 2 min walk to Ocean has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. message the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
