Tips and Tricks to get the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.
Planning, selecting, and booking the right Hatteras rental:
- First, have your group choose a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanfront home with private hot tub, pool, washer\/dryer & central AC has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect your property!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
