Tricks and tips to get the very best Hatteras rental home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. Book your Hatteras rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- To start, have your family agree to trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Oceanfront 5 bedroom house w\/ ocean view, private W\/D, AC, private hot tub has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
