Tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in Salvo. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by choosing vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Oceanview, Dog Friendly Home w\/ Pool, Hot Tub, Game Room, and Home Theater has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is right for your family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent resource to find the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
