Upstairs, savor the top-level great room with a home theater system, peaceful dining area, and step outside the door access to the roomy deck that showcases an ocean view and charming sunsets over the sound. Located in Salvo, this vacation home is near the beach. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Cape Hatteras National Seashore and Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, while Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site and Museum and Studio 12 are cultural highlights. Sticking to a rental budget:

• Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserve your rental home in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
• Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
• Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a special rate.
• Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
• Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
• Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
• On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
• Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
• Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
