Tips for getting the best rental experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in Avon. Book your Hatteras vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your vacation dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Family-Friendly House with Free WiFi, Shared Pool, AC, Private W\/D has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs applied to your agreement.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
