Build a handsome resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles, because Buxton’s unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). This is an splendid two-bedroom condo with one-and-a-half baths. The interior has been professionally-decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio, and there are plenty of appliances, counter space, and cabinet storage in the full kitchen. The screened-in porch is ideal for entertaining guests and appreciating your first cup of coffee in the morning. The living room is a great place to appreciate a movie nighttime with friends and family after a fun day on the beach. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Tricks and tips for getting the best Hatteras rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Summer is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose vacation week and spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Dog-friendly townhouse w\/ WiFi, private W\/D, shared pool, AC - ocean view has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
