Strategies to get the perfect Hatteras rental home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- To get the best value, shift your family's Hatteras vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Planning and choosing the bestvacation home:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly oceanfront condo with balcony, outdoor pool, hot tub, and central AC has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
Tips for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
