Tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:
When to visit Rodanthe & When to book:
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To book the most suitable rental within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Hatteras restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your search:
- First, have your group agree to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. OCEAN & SOUND VIEW! LINENS PROVIDED! Christmas Decor! SPECIALS! Whale Migration! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
