Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Hatteras area. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Hatteras restaurants and activities.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning and picking a perfect Hatteras vacation home:
- Choose dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Beautiful oceanfront condo with boardwalk to the beach! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
- If there's a particular Hatteras beach you are enamored with, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
