Make some memories at this unique and family-friendly place; this home has been newly remodeled on a property in our family for 3 generations. There is water access, handsome vistas and even the occasional otter in the backyard!! We have done our best to include mostly what our guests would need, including accounts on most major streaming services to watch tv, washer and dryer, full kitchen including plates, cups and silverware! We hope you savor Old Richmond as much as we do!

We have a book swap shelf! You’re able to donate a book or two and can take one or two from ours as well. :)

About the Area

Salvo is home to this vacation home. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Outer Banks Beaches and Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Rodanthe Pier and Ocean Air Sports are also worth visiting.

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To book the largest rental within budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Hatteras area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Old Richmond; Waterfront Property has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. text the host immediately to report your findings.   • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
