How to find the best vacation home experience:
Find your best deal:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your Hatteras vacation in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to pick the perfect rental in the Hatteras area:
- Select vacation dates and spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly home with private pool, hot tub, & central AC has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
- If there's a certain Hatteras destination you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
More considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas during arrival. Call the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
