Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Some hosts offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Choosing the best vacation rental:

  • First and foremost, have your family choose vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. New Construction- Ocean-side-Less than 5 min. walk to the beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the host before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your family.
  • Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

During your stay:

  • Add the host's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
