Tricks and tips to get the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
When to book a Hatteras rental home & When to go:
- Booking your Hatteras vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Dog-friendly, sound-front home with 2 sundecks, fireplace, & private hot tub has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
