About this Property

  • Sleeps 10
  • 4 Bedrooms
  • 3 Bathrooms
  • Private vacation home

Mermaid's Dream is just steps away from the sandy beach. One of our favorite things is sitting on the deck watching the dolphins (yes, we see them just about every day) and, of course, the fabulous sunrises and sunsets.

Bed linens will be furnished. Mermaid's Dream encompasses a reversed home plan which is very common to many homes along the Outer Banks. This simply means that the living area, ie, kitchen, dining, and living room are located on the highest level.

Our second floor level of Mermaid's Dream includes a very huge living area (great for entertaining) with flat-screen TV and DVD player. A huge sectional couch and two chairs face the two 8' sliders for a lavish view of the ocean. The dining area, open to the living area and kitchen, has seating for eight plus 3 seats at the island. The modern kitchen has all the cooking needs should one decide never to venture out to any of the great eateries in the area. A coffee station with a Keurig coffee maker and a traditional drip coffee maker is right off the kitchen for your convenience. There is a king bedroom upstairs with a connecting bath and shower that has its own slider to the outside oceanfront deck. A flat-screen TV and DVD are also in this bedroom.

Three of our bedrooms are downstairs, the master has a king bed with a sizable bathroom with a separate shower and hottub tub. The slider leads to a covered deck that is virtually on top of the ocean. This bedroom has a flat-screen TV and DVD. Another bedroom downstairs, very cavernous with a king bed, has a enormous window and a slider to a covered deck overlooking the ocean. This bed and breakfast style bedroom has a flat-screen TV and DVD. The third bedroom has two king beds. This bedroom has two windows; one with a view of the ocean, the other a view of the sound in the distance. This bedroom also has a flat-screen TV and DVD. This bedroom and the second bedroom share a full bathroom. Also, downstairs is a nice welcoming entryway and a full washer and dryer. Outdoor shower with hot and cold water. While staying in Mermaid's Dream, exploring is a must. Hatteras Island is simply the most striking place on earth - where the Atlantic Ocean and Pamlico Sound are separated by a thin, fragile slice of land. Hatteras Lighthouse, Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, modest villages of Avon, Buxton, Waves, Frisco, and Salvo are all within a short drive. Traveling the length of the Hatteras Island on the handsome Outer Banks of North Carolina is a coastal bicycle trail that’s as dreamy as it sounds. Running along the seashore, vistas of the bay and ocean greet you at every turn. You’ll want to take the whole family along to discover this famed island that offers impressive vistas every way you look!

In Rodanthe, discover the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Museum, Civil War Battle of Chicamacomico Races, and try to identify each of the over 400 species of birds. Or simply lay back and appreciate reading and watching the surf.

Pack and play are included.

COMPLIMENTARY Wireless Internet access for this property

Strategies for getting the best Rodanthe vacation property experience:

Finding the best value:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Book your Hatteras rental in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hatteras area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.

Selecting and booking your prefectvacation home:

  • Begin by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Oceanfront, Outer Banks, Rodanthe, Pet-Friendly has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Hatteras destination you are crazy about, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. text the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
