Hatteras rental home tips and tricks:
Finding the best rental value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Frisco
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible online. If not, reach out to the host before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Contact the property manager right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
