Turning Point, a Terrific Hatteras Rental!
Sat - Sat Summer Units; shorter stays available in the off-season.
Extensive cleaning protocols in place.
True Rental By Owner (no link to a property management company with additional costs). Feel complimentary to contact me if you have any questions about the home. Posted prices include cleaning and linens, no additional costs!
Turning Point is located in the peaceful, impressive, family-friendly Brigands' Bay neighborhood, which has breathtaking vistas, gnarled old live oak trees, Pamlico Sound access, and is ideal for walkers, runners, bikers, kayakers, and kids.
You'll have plenty of space to relax at Turning Point! We don’t have any fancy stuff -- no hot tub, pool, game room, home theater, or video library. We do have a comfortable, homey, well-maintained, and clean Hatteras beach bungalow that is ideal for your family vacation! And tons of books to savor while you're here! The rooms are enormous, and the furnishings are tasteful. You won’t feel busy here. We cater to folks who want to come hang out, appreciate, and discover the beach, the sound, the neighborhood, and all the adventure this special island has to offer.
The huge great room has sliding glass doors that open onto a waterfront deck and onto a furnished screened porch. It has a intelligent TV with cable and Wi-Fi service, as well as shelves of books, games, and jigsaw puzzles.
The well-equipped kitchen has ample counter, cabinet, and pantry space, a cavernous island, and is very well outfitted with everything you will need for your stay. The dining room table has seating for 8 and opens onto the screened porch which has a picnic table for 6 - 8, plus additional seating. There are also 3 bar stools at the island in the kitchen.
There are three roomy bedrooms and two full baths. The master bedroom (queen bed, TV) and bath are downstairs. The two bedrooms upstairs open onto a balcony that overlooks the family room. One bedroom has a queen bed and pullout couch, the other bedroom has a queen bed, single loft bed, and a set of bunk beds. There is a sizable jack-and-jill bathroom. Upstairs and downstairs you will find a fire escape ladder and a box fan in the bedroom closets.
You can fish and crab from the dock on the canal, with its fish-cleaning table and bench. Tie up your boat at the dock and have access to the Pamlico Sound for more fishing, crabbing, and clamming, or just exploring the shore. You'll appreciate the two 2-person kayaks for exploring the Pamlico Sound, and four bicycles for exploring the neighborhood by street.
We take pride in maintaining our home and ensure broad cleaning protocols in place. Posted rates include cleaning, bed linens, and bath towels - no additional costs! We are a True Rental By Owner (no link to a property management company with additional costs). Feel complimentary to contact me if you have any questions about the home.
Come to Turning Point and enjoy the laid-back island lifestyle at its best – for as long as you can stay!

The Garners
"This was our third visit to Turning Point...You can't beat the "flavor" of this home for OBX. Big thanks to Kathleen for carrying on the rental of this special place. so many family memories have been made here."
The Marsans (Michigan)
"We wanted a warm, sunny, calming beach vacation, and Hatteras Island delivered! We were happy to splash in the ocean waves and spend evenings relaxing and reading. Turning Point was a great location, had everything we needed and then some. Coming from up north, we appreciated getting a flavor of the Carolina coast."
The Collins
"What a enchanting week at Turning Point! In five years, we have been here (Hatteras) nine times, and five times at Turning Point. We return year after year wondering why it is that these vacations leave us so much more fulfilled than any other exotic or remote place we have ever been to (including Virgin Islands and Antigua)!"
The Jernigans (NC)
We've had a fun week here at Turning Point! We have been coming to the Outer Banks since we were kids, but this is the first time staying south on Hatteras Island, We appreciated the slower pace and less busy beaches and highway. Our four boys (ages 6 - 13) thoroughly adored the dock out back ... and the beach was great. The bungalow was very roomy and well-equipped."
The O'Rourkes
"We appreciated your home, everything we needed was here! We kayaked, biked, bbq'd, casual, read all the books on the Outer Banks. Turning Point is ideal for living life in the slow lane, or as you say yourself, "Island Time." Turning Point feels like a home, not a rental."
The Harshes, (NC)
"This is our second year visiting in Hatteras and this home. We completely adored the serenity of the neighborhood, friendliness of the people, and great accommodations. The home offered everything we needed."

How to find the best rental experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your Hatteras vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area travel guides which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting the perfect rental in the Hatteras area:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Comfy Cottage for the Perfect Hatteras Vacation! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- If there's a certain Hatteras destination you are crazy about, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
