Booking the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
Finding your best deal:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your Hatteras vacation home in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Make a plan and pick the perfectrental:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Three-story home with roof deck, great outdoor spaces & pool - walk to the beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. If not, call the property management company before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Advice for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
