Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hatteras area. Booking your Hatteras vacation home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by choosing trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Semi-Oceanfront Cottage with Hot Tub, Grill, and Nearby Community Beach Access has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges applied to your agreement.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
