How to book the best rental home experience:
How to get the best value:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. To get the largest rental home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many management companies supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to select the best rental in the Hatteras area:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Lovely canal front condo with pool, kitchen, washer\/dryer, TV, & board games has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is best for your family.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a particular Hatteras beach you are crazy about, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
