How to find the best rental home experience:

When to reserve a Hatteras rental & When to go:

  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • To book the most suitable rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Hatteras attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain discounts for local accommodations and attractions.

Narrow your Search:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Canalfront Dog Friendly Home in Avon – w\/ Hot Tub, Boat Dock, Windsports Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Hatteras attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
