Hatteras rental home booking tips:
Getting the best rental value:
- Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and pick the rightrental:
- Choose your dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Will's Hideaway Quiet, Secluded and Pet Friendly! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect your property!
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to inspire more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
