How to book the best vacation rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the largest rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the best rental home in the Hatteras area:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Buxton Woods Bungalow has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
