Tricks and tips to get the best Hatteras rental experience:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in Buxton. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the best vacation home in the Hatteras area:
- Select dates and max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Sea Turtle- Semi-Oceanview- Short Walk to Beach- Community Pool & Spa has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a certain Hatteras destination you crave, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
