Tips and Tricks to get the very best Hatteras rental experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Avon. Reserve your Hatteras rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Make a plan and pick the right Hatteras vacation home:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and select a budget.
  • Tiki Bar
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, call the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • During check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
