How to get the best Avon rental home experience:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Hatteras area:

  • Select your vacation dates and budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Dog-friendly home 5 lots from the beach with crow's nest, ocean view & fast WiFi has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
