Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Hatteras vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Summertime is high season in Rodanthe. Reserving a rental home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Hatteras area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your group choose dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. **Pet Friendly** Island Guest House with Pool has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
During your stay:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
