OCEANSIDE Salvo — Park Rd. — In the Hawaiian language, “mahi” means strong, the ideal name for a home to match your deep want for the ideal Hatteras Island hideaway. Bright and colorful like the mighty fish, this four-bedroom/three- and one-half-bath home is just a short walk to the beach, close to prime fishing on the sound, and perched on a lake for some backyard bird watching.

A mahi mural greets you as you pull up and park your cars in the roomy driveway or under the home. Here you will find a grilling area complete with both gas and charcoal grilles, and a picnic table. Spend the evenings under the nighttime sky next to the lake on the lawn in a comfortable Adirondack chair and reminisce on the day’s events. Make use of the convenient outdoor shower to clean up after a day in the sun, then step inside to a laundry room on the first level. Climb the stairs to the second level and discover the main living area. Bright, airy, and freshly furnished, your family will appreciate being together as you make new vacation memories with great meals prepped in the gorgeously equipped kitchen, appreciating them around the six-seat dining table or gathering to watch the sizable Intelligent TV. You’ll most certainly be drawn to the adjacent covered deck to soak in the six-person hot tub, savor a casual meal at the picnic table or simply sink into an Adirondack chair to appreciate the vistas. Also on this level is a half-bath and a king master bedroom with ensuite bath with stand-up shower Intelligent TV.

The remaining three bedrooms, all featuring Intelligent TVs, are located on the third level, including two kings, a queen, and a additional area with a bunk bed, all of which share two jack-and-jill baths. Rise and shine with the smell of coffee brewing just outside your bedroom door from the hallway coffee bar featuring a refrigerator to store the creamer. Take your brew out to the upper deck with vistas of both the ocean and sound as you contemplate how to spend the day. Get the most from your budget:

  • Summertime is high season in Salvo. To find the best rental within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Advice for a terrific stay:
