Tips and Tricks to get the best Hatteras vacation home experience:
Getting the best value:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your rental property in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area travel guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking the perfectrental home:
- Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront first-floor condo in Rodanthe has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
