Tricks and tips for getting the best Rodanthe vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Hatteras area. Reserve your Hatteras rental in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning and choosing the right Hatteras rental:
- To start, have your family commit to date ranges and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Dutch Treat; Vacation Home with Water Access has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
