Tips to get the very best vacation property experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Buxton. Reserve your Hatteras vacation in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to choose and book the right Hatteras vacation home:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Oceanfront, Dog-Friendly House w\/ Free WiFi, Ocean View, & Shared Pool has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your family.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
More considerations:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
