Tips for getting the perfect Rodanthe vacation home experience:
When to reserve a Hatteras rental home & When to go:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Summer is high season in the Hatteras area. To find the most suitable rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Top-floor, oceanfront condo with stunning balcony views, pool, deck, central AC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Tips for a smooth stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
