Buxton Woods Coastal Preserve and Outer Banks Beaches reflect the area's natural beauty and area attractions include Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum and Frisco Native American Museum. Sticking to a budget:
- To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for local shops and restaurants.

- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.

- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it.
