Strategies to get the optimal Hatteras rental experience:
Sticking to a spending budget:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Summertime is high season in the Hatteras area. Book your rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Make a plan and pick your Hatteras rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group choose date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Newly constructed pet-friendly Hatteras Island home with hot tub has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas during check in. E-mail the host immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to propel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
