Our top Hatteras vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, picking, and booking the perfect Hatteras rental:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Coastal House with Shared Pool, Free WiFi, Private Washer\/Dryer, and Central A\/C has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
