Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best vacation home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Hatteras restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
How to choose the best rental in the Hatteras area:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Oceanfront House w\/Central AC, Free WiFi, Private Washer\/Dryer, Shared Pool has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property management company before booking your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
