Our top Rental home tips:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Avon. Book your Hatteras rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Soundside Cottage Minutes to the Beach w\/ Books, Games, Grill, Screened Porch has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is best for your group.
- If there's an individual Hatteras destination you love, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
More considerations:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
