Vacation rental tips and tricks:
When to reserve a Hatteras rental & When to go:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is the most expensive season in Frisco. To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Filter your search:
- Start by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. 2-story home near the beach w\/deck, outdoor shower, W\/D, tennis, central A\/C has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before you book your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips to have a fantastic stay:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
