Tips to get the perfect rental experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal NC. Book your Hatteras rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. 2-story home near the beach w\/deck, outdoor shower, W\/D, tennis, central A\/C has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
