Tips to get the best Hatteras rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting the best rental in the Hatteras area:

  • Select a group lead, select your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront dog-friendly home close to sand with views & private hot tub has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. Contact the rental manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
