Fishing Information:
The Outer Banks is a great area for fishing! Our family took our first charter fishing trip last year and did offshore fishing. Our group of six people caught about 30 fish within a few hours. You can charter a boat for six people at the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center, which is a marina about 15 mins. north of the home.
There is a fish cleaning table next to the pool area as well, on the north-east side of the home.
Fishing at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge:
Fishing is allowed in both the ocean and sound; however, the ponds and impoundments themselves are closed to all activities. There is a fishing pier at Oregon Inlet on the north end of the refuge. Many visitors also enjoy bank fishing in Oregon Inlet from the rocky terminal groin. And, of course, there are nearly 13 miles of pristine beaches that surf fishermen may enjoy. Red drum, striped bass, spotted seatrout, and flounder are the most fashionable species caught.
Fishing at the refuge is subject to North Carolina state and local regulations, licensing requirements, seasons and bag limits. The refuge is open dawn to dusk and has charming fishing year-round. Access for nighttime surf fishing from Oregon Inlet south to the village of Rodanthe is allowed with a permit September 15-May 31 annually. There is a launching area for modest boats, canoes and kayaks at New Inlet. This launch area may be periodically closed for Highway 12 maintenance; please look for the signs. Saltwater species include sharks, bluefish, spotted sea trout, flounder, red drum, striped bass and many more!

Tips and Tricks to get the best Hatteras vacation home experience:
Sticking to a spending plan:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Finding the perfect rental in Waves:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Blue Moon - Ocean Front - Pool - Hot Tub - Theater - Elevator- Dog Friendly! has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
