How to find the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:
When to book a Hatteras rental & When to go:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing the perfectrental home:
- Select dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Island Fantasea- Short Walk to Beach- Upper Level has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain Hatteras destination you long to visit, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations for your visit:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of concerns.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas during check in. message the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
