Strategies to get the very best vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Book your Hatteras vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines that include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning, picking, and booking the bestrental:
- Start by selecting your the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Soundfront, Dogs Welcome, Boat Slip, Water Access, & Panoramic Sound Views has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a certain Hatteras beach you long to visit, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Advice for a great stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
